Artist and printmaker Jesse Levison brings style to the alphabet in U is for Underwear. Toddlers will keep turning the pages of this chunky board book featuring simple, vibrant, and graphic illustrations. Imbuing everyday objects with a sense of wonder, the bold artwork makes a perfect introduction to the ABCs for young pre-readers who can trace the letters with a finger and begin to understand the symbolic representation that underlies reading and writing.
Parents can begin to develop literacy in even very young children by exposing them to the letters of the alphabet, making U is for Underwear a fun and easy tool for imprinting little brains. Pleasing to the eye for both kids and adults, Jesse's retro sensibility and witty simplicity makes this a potential cross-over title for their little learners—or at least a great gift for style-conscious parents.

A bit underwhelmed.
By Baamboo22
The book is well made and the illustrations are beautiful and engaging to my 21 month old. The problem I have with the book are the examples given for a lot of the letters. Teaching a toddler letters is easier when he can relate to the examples. J is for Jacks? I don't think anyone has played with jacks since the 1950s. Q is for Quill? The 1850s now? Even O is for Oar, should be more relevant. Maybe this is better for an older toddler who has a large vocabulary and can learn about trivial items, but for a younger toddler, not so much.

Timeless and Playful Illustration at its best!
By sarah
I initially bought this book as a gift for my three year old niece, but loved the illustrations so much that I got one for myself. The idea is classic and simple, yet playful and the illustrations and design perfectly reflect these qualities. F is for Firework is such a clever, sweet design. As for my niece, she loved turning the thick pages and all the pretty pictures.I definitely recommend this as a gift to any babies or toddlers.

Great for young and not-so-young!
By Evan Forman
This book is teriffic. Levison's charming-but-never-precious illustrations are colorful and fun, with a sly wit. Playful but not ironic. I love reading it with my daughter, who says that F is for "workfires" (fireworks). While other books might tell you that B is for Baseball, U is for Underwear is one of a kind.
