Desmond Pucket Makes Monster Magic Details

Meet Desmond Pucket--master of mayhem! Will his monster-y special effects pranks get him kicked out of middle school before the class trip to Crab Shell Pier? Or will Desmond be able to keep his monster magic in check?

This is a compelling new character that kids will love!

"Tatulli's entry into the comics/fiction--hybrid market is one of the best…The target audience will snap this up and beg for more."

---Kirkus Reviews (starred review)

"This is full of ghoulish fun, and fans of Diary of a Wimpy Kid probably won't want to miss it."
---School Library Journal

"Desmond Pucket neatly fills a gap for our readers---it's a step more sophisticated than Diary of a Wimpy Kid but appeals to that reader. It's also so great to have a Halloween/monster/scary stuff series to offer boys that is not Goosebumps."
---Rebecca Waesch, Children's Product Manager, Joseph-Beth Booksellers
Meet Desmond Pucket---professor of frightology and master of monsters.

Someday Desmond will be famous for his special effects wizardry, but for now he's just trying to make it through sixth grade at Cloverfield Memorial Junior High, which means he needs to stay one step ahead of the school's disciplinary officer, Mr. Needles.

The only problem is Desmond just can't stop pulling pranks---like the time he attached a shrieking rubber goblin to the toilet seat in the teachers' bathroom. Mrs. Rubin screamed so loudly her wig flew off! Or the time he put giant motorized worms into the mashed potatoes in the cafeteria. Or the time Desmond and his best friend, Ricky, arranged for a three-headed ghost to crash his sister's slumber party. Rachel still hasn't forgiven him.

And now Desmond has to stay prank-free for the rest of the year, or he won't be able to go on the class trip to Crab Shell Pier, home of the Mountain Full of Monsters ride! It's going to be tough, but Desmond has to try.

This book includes a section of "Desmond's Notes": instructions for making monster magic (think scary noises, or fake blood) at home!

5Misunderstood middle schooler delivers monster magic!
By Jared Castle
Watch Video Here: review/R13B12MMGM82AA I ask my sons Kai (age 11) and Kou (age 9) to help me with book reviews. My start here on Amazon began with the picture books I would read to them at bedtime. Over the years, the picture books evolved into chapter books and my nighttime reading became their own.Not every book they read is a pleasant experience. I push and cajole them to read different genre, to expand their horizons. Occasionally, though, I provide them with sheer entertainment. Books like Stick Dog by Tom Watson and The Strange Case of Origami Yoda by Tom Angleberger. These are fast and funny reads with a cotton candy quality that provides a nice break from the more serious (read: grim) classic stories for young adults. Please watch Kou's book review. His enthusiasm for Mark Tatulli's book Desmond Pucket is undeniable. Kou gives the book a five-star rating.Even more telling is that his older brother is chomping at the bit to read it next.Rating: Five starsJUNE 2014 UPDATE: Kou told me that Desmond Pucket was one of the hardest books to reserve at his school library because of its popularity. He said his friends plan to buy a copy and take it on their summer vacations.

5Love Mark Tatulli and Desmond
By Navy Bean
As an aspiring (yet cynical) cartoonist, there are very few current cartoonists that I enjoy. Ruben Bolling, Dave Coverly, Stephan Pastis and Mark Tatulli are just a few that deliver the goods on a regular basis. And "Lio" may be my favorite of all. So, when I see Mark Tatulli is going to put out a monster-type book, I buy it. And then I enjoy it. And then I lay down because Mark knows how to get to me emotionally and in my heart and also in my thyroid. So I cannot recommend this enough. Buy it. Live it. Love it. And Mr. Tatulli if you should ever find yourself in Huber Heights, Ohio, you would be a most welcome guest at my dinner table. I serve haddock with a lovely cream sauce most nights.

3Fun book, great illustrations
By Kelly Sottelbaum
When the cover of a book glows in the dark, you know you're onto something good. And that's just where this book starts! Pucket, the main character loves making gross/scary things from the first time he saw a haunted house ride. The story flows well enough, but for us, the story enough wasn't very good. In fact, without the various pictures and drawings and such, the story alone in this book wouldn't be able to stand alone (for the adults or kids that read it)...which is unfortunate, because with a stronger story, this book as a whole could have been great.Overall, it's a pretty good book but without a good story to go along with it, I'm sticking with an OK rating...recommended for those who may like graphic novels, not recommended for those that prefer a more interesting story. For reference, our kids love the Magic Treehouse series...and comparing by storyline alone, this book didn't hold up very well.
