Get Dressed! Details

Seymour Chwast celebrates the daily routine of getting dressed in this fittingly whimsical and satisfyingly unique novelty book. Unlike more traditional books on this topic that deal with the how of getting dressed, Get Dressed! instead tackles the why. The text “Get dressed to read about dragons” accompanies an illustration of a boy dressed in a makeshift knight costume. A girl in full floral garb stands in a garden alongside the text “Get dressed to hide.” The book features half and full gatefolds, which foreshadow the items of clothing to be seen and provide surprise reveals on each spread. With a die-cut magnetic closure, even the cover invites readers to peek inside!

Praise for Get Dressed!
“Chwast’s wacky combinations are sure to encourage young fashionistas to be comfortable with their own personal style. Even the cover, designed as a suit jacket that fastens with a magnetic snap, invites readers to open a world of possibilities. A clever, dapper package.”
Kirkus Reviews

"Young children will delight in pointing out which objects don’t necessarily belong with the others."

4Get dressed for fun!
By J.Prather
Get Dressed by Seymour Chwast takes a decidedly more whimsical look at getting dressed than the usual preschool basic concept book. It is very well designed, from the cover that looks like a suit coat opening up, to its fold out flaps; this is a very charming presentation. Instead of offering spreads for the normal activities, like going to school, to play, etc.., this book offers dress up choices for things as varied as building a castle to reading about dragons, for which you need a soup pot, lid, and a sword among other things. Everyone knows you need a coat, snow boots and mittens when you are getting dressed to "keep warm", but did you know that you also need envelopes, a necktie, and a paint brush in order to get dressed to sing? Of course this tale of dressing up ends with getting undressed and going to sleep.Kids will love poring over the illustrations to find each of the items shown on the flap in each spread. The pages are sturdy, and likely to withstand lots of love and repeat readings. My one reservation about this book is the color scheme. I'm just not a fan of pastel color schemes in books for very young children, and I can't help but wish this one would have been a bit brighter. On the whole, a nice fun book to share with your toddler or preschooler that is sure to inspire lots of dressing up, even if they have already mastered the art of getting dressed.

4Encourages kids to get creative when dressing up
By Ellybean
Get Dressed by Seymour Chawast is a book that celebrates in getting dressed for the day whether it be for a trip to the beach or a day playing make believe. And what a book this is to keep children interested and amused. As the reader opens the book with it's magnetic cover, which is shaped like a snazzy button up shirt with a tie, they will find that the book itself features pretty spiffy fold out pages! The fold out feature mixes things up each page keep children guessing what's next! The illustrations are fun and look to be drawn with crayon. The kid appeal screams out every page. I really enjoyed reading this one to the kids and pointing out the fun plethora of things on each page that could be worn say to read about dragons, or when getting dressed to sing. Items include everything from paper crowns, a soup pot, rubber gloves, feather dusters, to flip flops and flippers! It really encourages kids to get creative when dressing up, which is one of my preschoolers favorite play time activities!I recommend this book fir children ages 2-4 years old that may be learning to get dressed on their own or for those that already love playing dress up and make believe. This book will be a fun inspiration to them, I'm sure!
