One day Little Green rolls into town and says his first word: "Go!" The town is building a bridge, and now everyone has a job to do, from dump truck to forklift. Little Green helps them do their jobs with gusto. Until . . . there is a little too much gusto. They can go, go, go . . . but how will they stop?
This bright, fun book with a bold package captures the endless energy of little boys and the timeless appeal of trucks and machines--both for building and knocking down. Plus, it has an underlying message about working together to get things done.

Great book for early literacy!
By A. Brumley
I have a very active 3-year-old son, and he LOVES the book and can't get enough of it. I just received "Go! Go! Go! Stop!" yesterday afternoon and we've already read the book 8 times as of this morning! You know that you have a hit when a physically active boy will sit down and listen to the entire book, and also requests that you read it again and again!Things I like about the book:1. Not too many words on each page. This is perfect for the attention span of toddlers.2. The words "Go" and "Stop" are in green and red colors, so it helps my son recognize the words and "read along" with the book.3. The pictures are bright and cute, and very fun to look at.4. There are funny moments in the book that my son finds HILARIOUS. ("Too much go! Too much stop!")5. The book introduces the concept of "opposite". (quiet and loud, stop and go)If you have a child who likes cars and construction vehicles, this is the perfect book!

GO, go, go and buy this book. Do not stop, Go!

I loved this book. Loved, loved, loved it. Someday I will use it in storytime. It is a perfect example for ECRR-talk. The labelling that is used for lifting, carrying, mixing, scooping, etc is awesome. It's a beautiful vocabulary builder--"towed terrifically," "carried carefully," dumped dependably," "mixed marvelously." I also put this on the "play" shelf because although the trucks are all working, it's a lot of fun and I can picture kids playing this story while reading it. At one point I wondered if someone decided to cram as many early literacy skills into a picture book as possible--in a good way. However it came about, whether it just sprang from the creative brain of the author or she researched and knows well all the early literacy skills and practices,(I suspect there's some of both, here) this is a phenomenal book that hits the mark. Often when you can tell someone is writing for the purpose of fulfilling an agenda other than telling a great story, you can tell. It often falls flat and feels preachy (ahem, Madonna?) This is not the case here! It is a great, fun book that I think kids are going to love. And it will be fun for parents and caregivers to read, too.I would be surprised if this one doesn't make it to at least the short list for one of the CLEL Bells this year (and not just because I'm on the committee!)

Offers excellent lesson for the youngest ones, recommended to children even 1,5 years old
By Denis Vukosav
‘Go! Go! Go! Stop!’ written and illustrated by Charise Mericle Harper is a great picture book choice for the smallest children that both pleasantly surprises with its appearance and theme. The main character is circle shaped Little Green who one day will say his first word - Go. He liked how that word sounds and then he practiced it first quietly, then medium and finally very loud. He was excited to share his word with the world, therefore he started bouncing inside of an empty stoplight shouting loud for everyone to hear it.His voice will wake up many cute characters and things such as teddy bear and blanket, but also different construction vehicles that will immediately get to work. Our loud hero will not stop yelling forcing the vehicles to go too fast. The vehicles will start making mistakes but at the right time another cute character will step in, Little Red, to save the day by shouting "Stop!"For two of them it took some time to find a balance of issuing commands but eventually they found a right solution - Go! Go! Go! Stop!‘Go! Go! Go! Stop!’ is very simple, but actually very cleverly conceived picture book that offers excellent lesson for the youngest ones. The author teaches that we should not just issue commands to others demanding something (which usually little kids love to do), but it should be understood that the other side (parent or friend) also needs time for themselves, that they should take a break or do something else, because otherwise bad things will happen or someone will be sad.The picture book is illustrated with simple though nice looking drawings that will be simple to understand even for youngest readers, making this book recommended to parents who have children of 18 months or older.
