5Cats are a Treasure
By Young Mensan BookParade
Captain Cat is about a man who sailed around the world with his cats. He really loves cats! The Captain visits an island that had no cats. The island was pretty special because the Queen, the Queen's mother, the Prime Minister, the Lord Chancellor, and the Mayor, were so nice and they had lunch with the Captain. The people on the island knew what was really a treasure worth keeping, cats. The book is fun because you don't know what to expect. Some kids may not like what the traders get from the queen as payment.I like all of the pictures. I also like the part where the traders bring all of their treasures to the island for the queen to enjoy. It would be fun if treasures came to my home and I got to select the things I liked. If you look careful you can see the queen's clothes (her top and skirt) are white. Then after the traders come her skirts change colors on each page and she has a rainbow of skirts-red, orange, yellow, green, purple, and pink.Review by Charlotte P., age 5, Denver Mensa

5Captain Cat Is One of My Family's All-Time Favorites!
By Tiffa @ The Picture Book Review
Meet Captain Cat — he is a trader who happens to trade his wares for cats. There’s nothing he loves more than traveling on his ship, the Carlotta, with his cats. Other traders think he’s crazy for trading valuable goods for cats — but Captain Cat gets the last laugh. (Except, actually, Captain Cat is too busy being himself to even have that register. He’s a good man.) One day he takes his cats on the adventure he’s been meaning to go on all his life and finds good people and his happily ever after. This is a classic story — Captain Cat could have been written 100 years ago or a 100 years from now. It is timeless. This story challenges assumptions about what is valuable and what isn’t. (Which is a fabulous discussion to have with anyone.)There are parts of the story where the writer talks to her audience adding an additional layer of engagement for the readers. It certainly had my son talking back! Adults, teens, and older children will enjoy this book as much — if not more — than the younger children. There are twists and turns to this gorgeously illustrated story that made our whole family laugh (hard). I’d tell you more, but I don’t want to give anything away because it’s fantastic and I don’t want to spoil it at all for you. So go read it -- and everything else written by Inga Moore -- right now. (Or at least very, very, very soon.)
