Alexander tries his hand at behaving in this hilarious companion to the bestselling classic Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.
Last night somebody ate a whole box of jelly donuts. That somebody woke up with a terrible bellyache, and that somebody’s mom found the empty box and told that somebody that there are going to be consequences.
That somebody is Alexander, and Alexander really hates consequences.
So from now on, he is going to try his best to be the Best Boy Ever. For the complete and entire rest of his life. Starting right this very minute.
But there are all sorts of things that you can’t do when you’re being the Best Boy Ever. Fun things. Very important things. Things that Alexander might—just might—like a little bit more than he hates consequences.

By Denis Vukosav
‘Alexander, Who's Trying His Best to Be the Best Boy Ever’ written by Judith Viorst and nicely illustrated by Isidre Mones is an interesting though a bit provocative story how difficult for kids is to stay good in spite of their efforts, because the expectations - of adults and or own – are sometimes so difficult to meet. The main character, boy named Alexander will be in trouble because of consequences he experienced due to eating a whole box of donuts. Therefore boy will try to prove to himself and to others that he is and can be good kid, a child with whom everyone will be satisfied. And despite the doubts of his family Alexander will try to stay away from problems for a week, though there will be many temptations awaiting him on the road.Although he started doing this thing for others to see how good he is, even more this task becomes important for Alexander – proving himself he can do it, he can endure. In the end, Alexander will learn lot about himself during this week while for readers remains to be seen would they will agree with boy’s conclusions…Though the illustrations made by Isidre Mones are beautifully made, the main strength of this work for preschool children lies in a bit of provocative story that challenges topic of naughtiness, at least in a way seen by adults. Therefore I recommend that you first browse through a book in order not to be surprised when your child after reading it will differently experience what you talk about what it means to be good or bad child…

By Sunshine on A Rainy Day
Alexander has eaten an entire box of donuts, hidden the evidence, and is now facing the consequences in the form of a stomach ache and being grounded for the day. While grounded, he realizes that he doesn't like the consequences and perhaps it would be better to be good all of the time so he doesn't have to face consequences. His parents encourage him to be the best boy ever for a week to start. He does very well although it is very hard for him. But by the end of the week, thinking about being good for the rest of his life has given him a stomach ache. He opts for a repeat of a box of donuts and the consequences. The illustrations are done in black and white except for Alexander himself. They are very well done and enjoyable to look at.I really liked the story at the start. I liked how Alexander decided to try avoiding consequences by making better choices. But the one thing I did not like is Alexander was not encouraged in his journey to make better choices. His family and his teacher discouraged his attempt and decided he was doomed to fail. They never told him that little boys were not expected to be perfect and they were expected to make mistakes. Instead it was an all or nothing scenario and by the end Alexander decids he failed at and would never attempt again. Never is Alexander praised for the good things he has done and the good choices he makes. I get that this is from the kid's perspective, but it is missing a few elements that could have made it a good message.

I thought the text was too long to keep a child's attention. But more than that, the message was one that didn't come across as positive. And even if it was meant to be fun with no message, there certainly appeared to be one. I would not recommend it.
