A darling companion to Old Bear and His Cub from the New York Times bestselling creator of the Gossie books
What's an Old Bear to do when he finds a Little Cub all alone and afraid of the dark? Adopt him, of course! And help him try to get over his fears. In this book we see the father and son from Old Bear and His Cub meet for the first time--and grow to love one another.
With the same bold art and humorous twist on parenting, Olivier Dunrea's tumbling bears will melt your heart and show how strong the bond is between any father and son pair.
Praise for LITTLE CUB
*"Readers will treasure the bears’ gingerly give-and-take—watching them serendipitously become a family of two is a joy to behold."--Publishers Weekly, starred review
*"Dunrea packs a huge amount of emotion into his limited text and engaging art. A delight for fans of these characters and a lovely next step for children ready to move beyond the “Gossie and Friends” series."--School Library Journal, starred review

Anyone who loved 2010's wintertime classic Old Bear and His Cub will certainly love Little Cub, which gives us the story of how Old Bear and Little Cub first came together. This story is perfect for grandparents to share with their grandchildren as it is a testament to the special bonds that can exist between our youngest and most senior of citizens. We learn that both of the bears in the story are a lot alike. Neither likes being alone, neither like the long dark nights, and neither has anyone to take care of them. It's obvious right away that the two belong together, Little Cub is hungry and Old Bear has no one to share his food with. When they meet, and Old Bear says "I'm Old Bear, Who are you?" Little Bear's reply of "I'm me" is sure to tug at any reader's heart. While this unlikely pair gets to know each other amidst some yowling and grumping, it's always clear that they belong together. When the grumpy Old Bear finally tells Little Cub goodnight after reading him his first story, he tells him "I'm glad you're here". That simple admission is powerful.Dunrea's characters are as charming as ever, with Old Bear exuding his Wilfred Brimley-like grumpiness that we will all recognize. The setting is a blustery fall, with plenty of blowing leaves and tans and brown colors decorating the color palette. The story is simple yet powerful, and the illustrations charming and clever. This one will endure as a classic, right along with Old Bear and His Cub, and is an enthusiastic recommend for preschoolers and early elementary ages.
