A New York Times Bestseller!
Jason Segel, multitalented actor, writer, and musician, teams up with New York Times bestselling author Kirsten Miller for the hilariously frightening, middle-grade novel Nightmares!, the first book in a trilogy about a boy named Charlie and a group of kids who must face their fears to save their town.
Sleeping has never been so scary. And now waking up is even worse!
Charlie Laird has several problems.
1. His dad married a woman he is sure moonlights as a witch.
2. He had to move into her purple mansion, which is NOT a place you want to find yourself after dark.
3.He can’t remember the last time sleeping wasn’t a nightmarish prospect. Like even a nap.
What Charlie doesn’t know is that his problems are about to get a whole lot more real. Nightmares can ruin a good night’s sleep, but when they start slipping out of your dreams and into the waking world—that’s a line that should never be crossed.
And when your worst nightmares start to come true . . . well, that’s something only Charlie can face. And he’s going to need all the help he can get, or it might just be lights-out for Charlie Laird. For good.
Praise for Nightmares!

This is such a fun read. I didn't know what to expect from Segel as an author. I mean I know that he's written hilarious movies and such and I’m a fan of his movies but books are my passion and I feel like they are a wholly different ballgame. However this pairing with Miller has turned out great. It tells a story that many people can relate with, a story about change and fear and dealing with both of those things. Charlie is a boy whose life has taken some major blows in the last few years and has left him a little broken, this has given nightmare creatures the opportunity to cross over to the mortal plane but luckily very few of them know this. The real problems come when Charlie is tricked into going into the world of nightmares himself and in the flesh rather than sprit, once there the tale only gets weirder with creepy clowns and wayward gorgons trying to help him but can he trust them, one thing he knows is you can’t trust the goblins. The illustrations in this book just add another level of enjoyment to the tale, once all books had at least some illustrations in them and this is something publishers have gotten away from for some reason but I love when we can see the world as the author sees it and see how it matches up with our own imagination. So settle into a comfy reading nook and enjoy this book.

By luzikl15
I saw an interview with Jason Segel when this book came out, and I could not ignore the passion he has for this project. This is clearly something that means a lot to him, so I kicked this book up on my reading list. I'm glad I did. It is a great easy read that I would definitely recommend to my nieces and nephew. It has everything a tween novel in this category should have: fear, humor, and a good message. Reading as an adult, it also held my attention and reminded me that there are things we're afraid of as adults that set us back and we just need to stand up and face it.

By Amazon Customer
I haven't actually read this book myself, but my son (age 10) has not been able to put it down. We struggle with finding books that he enjoys (he loves the Goosebumps series, and his teachers and I think he needs to broaden his reading horizon). This was something similar and he loves it. He is already talking about book #2. As a parent, I would highly recommend this book to anyone who has children who are into mystery, horror, or suspense! As soon as he is done with it, I'm going to read it.
