This seems to be the 2nd book in a series. However, it is an easy read for beginning readers. Nothing like the orginal Masterpiece book. This was a $9 purchase on the kindle, it would've been nice to have been warned that your buying a beginning readers book. Extremely disappointing.

I was so excited to get this book in the mail. I loved Masterpiece, but knew my kindergartener couldn't read it yet. This is a great "I CAN READ" version for those new readers. It was a great story all on it's own. (It was NOT meant to be a continuation of MASTERPIECE.) I can't wait for this author to create new books to go with this. That beetle is precious and I am so glad I can share it with my son.

..I am a huge fan of MASTERPIECE but my two nephews are still a bit young( five and seven.) So I was thrilled when this younger version for early readers came out. The story is entertaining for both children and adults! It's suspenseful, and funny, and sweet all at the same time. The illustrations by Kelly Murphy are purely magical. Together, these books stand next to the classics like FROG AND TOAD and LITTLE BEAR. This series (because I hope there will be more) will bring my nephews right up to the ages when they can read the middle grade novel, MASTERPIECE.
