We are big William Joyce fans in this house and I was excited to have my pre-ordered copy of "The Mischievians" arrive today. As soon as my six year old arrived home from school we got a snack and snuggled in to explore the newest Joyce offering. First, let me tell you that the illustrations are amazing- everything we have come to love by this talented illustrator (detail, vibrant color, and intricacies on every page). We really enjoyed pouring over the art before we even started to read the story. Once we dove into the text of the book we continued though to the very end in one sitting; we were both laughing and excited to get to the next page to uncover more! The book itself is largely presented in a Question and Answer format to help better aquatint you with the strange and funny world of the, "Mischievians". Along the way you learn the true culprits behind every day annoyances like: the missing sock, the itch you can't scratch, the source of funny sounds your body makes (like yawns) and so many more.I am very pleased with this book and see it quickly working it's way into heavy rotation at our house. Pick up a copy, you won't be disappointed :)

I love William Joyce books and this was no exception. I was a little thrown by the style at first, but it didn't take long to settle into it. My son and I started reading it before bed one night, thinking we would just read a bit because it was late, and we would finish it the next night. Nope - neither of us could put it down. The Mischievians are hilarious, creative, and completely relatable. With almost ever creature, we had to stop reading so Little Dude could tell me about a time that this Mischievian must have created a situation in his life. It was really cool to hear him recalling stories from his own life and embracing the fantasy from this book.I thought my son would get a kick out of "The Dangler" since he's a bit gross, and my kid usually likes gross things. But his absolute favorite is the LintBellian. Hands Down. He might be my favorite, too, but it's hard to choose. The other great thing about this book is that my son really doesn't love to read. He can read, but he would rather I just read to him. But with this book, he picks it up and reads it on his own at least weekly. Very few books have been able to capture his attention in that way, which means I love it even more.

My 7 year old daughter is loving reading this book. She immediately asked to read it after she opened it and she has been reading it every night since.
