By Darlene
Our family enjoys all of the Karen Katz books. This would be a great book for a child just learning the concepts of happy/sad/angry/silly, etc. It simply illustrates single-word emotions. There is no narrative. I bought this book online (not knowing the specific contents) after my toddler already knew the handful of emotion/concepts described, so as a learning tool, it had more limited use than expected. But it is good reinforcement for what he knows, and we still enjoy reading it together and my toddler likes to fiip the pages now and then. I would recommend this for a toddler/baby just learning emotions for the first time. After a toddler is already aware of labels for basic emotions, a narrative book on emotions would be a better fit.

My daughter loves this book. The flags are big enough that even 18 months she can flip them herself and they are relatively sturdy. One has torn off, but we were able to repair it, and I think that's somewhat expected when a toddler reads a lift-the-flap book!

We have lots of lift the flap books - my daughter who are 1 and 3 love them and we haven't had much trouble with our Usborne ones. This is a cute book but almost immediately the flaps detached from the pages and were bent. The design is not great. I had to use clear packing tape to reinforce every page. I won't be buying more of these books.
