Agatha: Girl of Mystery is a fanciful and fabulous new mystery series about a headstrong girl detective who jets off on exotic and international adventures with the help of her hulking bodyguard and loyal cat named, aptly, Watson. The first mystery in this series sees young detective Agatha Mistery traveling to Egypt. Rumors of a mysterious tablet unearthed in the Valley of the Kings may be just the clue that Agatha needs to unlock the secret curse of an ancient Pharaoh.

By Loralee Petersen
Agatha Mystery is the stuff of childhood fantasy. Not only is she brilliant, but she's also rich, belongs to a family that prides itself on being eccentric and has parents who travel frequently so that her only adult supervision is Chandler, her butler. Chandler is more than able to take care of any problem that Agatha runs into but she is definitely the one who gives the orders in this relationship. What child would not want to be in Agatha's shoes? When Agatha's cousin Dash (short for Dashiell) needs help finding an ancient Egyptian tablet stolen from an archeological dig for a detective school assignment, she is ready to fly from England to Egypt at a moment's notice. (Let Chandler worry about the packing.)What follows is a satisfying mystery with all clues laid out plainly, giving the reader the chance to play along and solve the mystery with Agatha and Dash. This is a great place for newly independent readers to discover the mystery genre. I'd pair it with the Nathanial Fludd, Beastologist books by R. L. LaFevers for more mystery set in Egypt and other exotic locations and maybe the 43 Old Cemetery Road books by Kate and Sarah Klise for mystery mixed with humor. As readers become more accomplished they can find more Egyptian flavored adventure and mystery in the Theodosia Throckmorton series by R. L. LaFevers.

My daughter is 7 years old, but a very advanced and gifted reader. She read the book in an hour or so. She thought the characters were believable and the story plot fun. She said she'd read more of this type of books. She also likes the A to Z mysteries, Magic Tree House, Nancy Clancy, and similar mystery books to give you an idea of this genre.

My 6 year old daughter loved the book . She enjoys mysteries. Agatha is a clever 12year old who travels the world. She is well versed in many topics which help her to solve mysteries. I appreciate the fact that her intelligence does not hinder her I but are seen as a positive aspect. As a parent, a few things that I did not like, were the use of guns during the holdup and some of the stereotyping that occurred with the characters. I just skipped over the words or changed them to accommodate our needs. Also the fact that Agatha is left alone without parents because they are traveling seems odd to me. I figured she was traveling with them when she stumbled upon her adventures. I know it's a book but it just seems odd to me personally. Over all an enjoyable book and we are looking forward to our next adventure with Agatha.
